GOD CALLS—GOD SENDS
:11 Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress.
Gideon was in an obscure place, a place where no one would look for him, staying away from the enemy and going about family tasks. He was not trying to impress anyone, or look important, or be seen. He was not attempting to be noticed for his activity by God so that God would give him great things to do.
:12 The angel of the Lord appeared and said to Gideon “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”
At all times God knew where Gideon was, and what he was doing. God saw Gideon for who Gideon really was, and He spoke to the man whom He knew Gideon to be.
:13 Gideon is questioning the messenger, and wondering why God is not caring for His people at that time, and wondering why they are not seeing miracles and wonders.
How often do we, when God calls us, question the calling? How often do we think God should be doing now exactly what He did in years gone by? When we don’t see God acting in ways that we think He should be acting, how often do we think He has forgotten us and left us on our own?
:14 The Lord said “Go” “Am I not sending you?”
:15 Gideon questioned what he could do, since his clan is small and he is not mighty.
:16 The Lord answered, “I will be with you.”
When God tells us to do something, all we need to know is that He will be with us.
In this story of Gideon, we see that God knows where we are at all times and what we are doing.
God knows our heart. God knows the abilities He has given each of us, and He knows the plans and purpose He has for each of us.
When we hear from God, at times we will question if it is truly God. At times we will question what is currently happening or what is not happening. We will question why we are not seeing great wonders and miracles, such as God performed in years gone by. We will wonder why God is not taking care of problems and healing sicknesses now, in the manner that we think He should be doing. As these thoughts come, we wonder if it is God calling, or if we are imagining.
And then if we listen, we again hear God say “Go in the strength you have……., Am I not sending you?”
As we may question some more, God says, “I will be with you.”
That is all we need, God to send us and to be with us.
Judges 6:34 records “Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon……”
Hallelujah, we have that same Spirit of the Lord and He is within us, upon us, empowering us to claim victory that He has given in any area that He sends us.
