““So says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the captives whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon, ‘Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their fruit. ~‘Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there and do not decrease [in number]. ~‘Seek peace and well-being for the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf; for in its peace (well-being) you will have peace.’ For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, ‘Do not let your [false] prophets who are among you and your diviners deceive you; pay no attention and attach no significance to the dreams which they dream or to yours, for they prophesy falsely to you in My Name. I have not sent them,’ says the LORD.”
JEREMIAH 29:4-9 AMP
God Says He sent His people into exile. But God also tells His people to pray for the city they are in, and seek peace. There will be false prophets, do not pay attention to them, as they only lie to the people, and are not speaking God’s Words to them.
At times, even today, Christ followers may feel trapped in a situation, may feel alone, wondering where God is. God instructed His people to live their lives as normally as possible. They were to build houses, be married, have families, grow gardens.
Perhaps the main part of all the instructions received from God was to seek peace, and to pray for the city they were being held captive in.
They were to seek God always, and avoid listening to the false prophets.
It is possible Holy Spirit has led us into a difficult place to teach, strengthen, build, test, grow us, and to be a testimony to our Father, and how He is in control.
Whatever challenges or difficult situations we may find ourselves in, the best advice is to seek God, and beware of any false prophets. The way of being cautious of what false prophets may say, is to check all things with God’s Word, and make sure things line up.
