Priority in Ministry
“And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits.”
“So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent. And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them.”
The time arrived for Jesus to send His Apostles out to minister, after teaching them through words and His example of living. As noted, He sent them out in twos, giving them authority over unclean spirits, for the Apostles to cast the spirits out of any who were controlled by them.
A few verses later, we read that the Apostles did cast out many demons, as well as anointing many with oil who were sick, and healed them.
Before the casting out of demons, and healing the sick was mentioned though, the writer of the Gospel of Mark stated boldly that the Apostles went out and proclaimed that people should repent. That was always foremost in the mind of Jesus, that each person has a need to repent of sin and follow Him, and that fact obviously was caught by, and followed by the Apostles.
In these days that we live in, that is also the most important facet of ministry, to proclaim the fact that we are all sinners, and need to repent of our sin, asking Jesus to forgive us, and lead us in His way of Righteousness.
I believe, and am sorry to say, in these days many Christians, Christ Followers, seem to put a priority on any Spiritual gift they may have received, rather than the first priority in life being on the GIVER of the gifts, and telling others of the Free Gift of SALVATION.
All the Spiritual gifts are a blessing to have, but each is to Honour our Lord Jesus, drawing people to Him. The gifts are not for our pleasure, self- aggrandizement, or popularity.
Sharing the True Gospel of Jesus Christ, to lead others to repentance and salvation, is the main ministry. If a person’s soul is not healed from sin, and purified by the Blood of Jesus through repentance and Salvation, what good is a healed body?
The soul needs to be purified, and saved from a life of sin, in order for each of us to live eternally with Jesus Christ in Heaven.
Even the healthiest, most cared for body of any person in the world will die some day, unless the return of Jesus is first, and if a person does not know Jesus Christ as Saviour, the Bible says that person’s eternity will be in hell. Hell was not meant for people, that is why God has given us the opportunity, through the death, burial, resurrection, and coming again of His Son, Jesus the Christ, to repent, receive Salvation, and the assurance of going to Heaven.
Or what good is a person giving a word of wisdom or knowledge to someone, if the person does not know of the Gift of Salvation that Jesus freely gives.
This is something heavy on my heart, and I had to express it. Some may not like it, but that is how I understand the teaching of Jesus the Christ, in God’s Word.
