As I continue reading in 1 Kings, more thoughts come to mind, kind of challenges that I am wondering about, but it is good to think of challenges from all Scripture.
1 Kings 9:6-9
“But if you turn aside from following me, you or your children, and do not keep my commandments and my statutes that I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them,
then I will cut off Israel from the land that I have given them, and the house that I have consecrated for my name I will cast out of my sight, and Israel will become a proverb and a byword among all peoples.
And this house will become a heap of ruins. Everyone passing by it will be astonished and will hiss, and they will say, Why has the Lord done thus to this land and to this house?’
Then they will say, ‘Because they abandoned the Lord their God who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt and laid hold on other gods and worshiped them and served them. Therefore the Lord has brought all this disaster on them.’” “.
When we answer the call of God, and surrender to Him, He wants us to stay with Him because of His Love, and He is a jealous God. I believe this passage of Scripture pertains to us as Christians today as well. If we turn from God, and worship or follow some false god, we are disparaging the Holy Name of the One True Living God, so what could He do with us, that will benefit His Kingdom, so He puts us out of His sight. We will then be a story of what could have been.
As years go by, and if people did not return to Christ, their lives will be a remembrance of ruins. Others will know that at one time those others confessed to be Christians, followers of Jesus Christ, but wandered away to live as the world.
Going a step further, in looking at this, how about our countries that were founded on Scripture principles, with founders who loved and served the One True God. Over the years we have wandered, as countries, a long way from the Word and Principles of God.
If our Lord Jesus does not return for His Body, the Church, in the not distant future, what will be said of our countries by future generations?
Lord Jesus, forgive us, help us as nations to have leaders who will serve You first.
