“He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.”
Each person has been created by God in the image of God and is to be respected. If a person is poor and needy, that person is still loved by God, and when we cross paths with that person it is our responsibility to show the love of God in our words and actions. God is pleased and honoured when we are respectful and kind to hurting people, because we are then acting as Jesus acted while on earth, and showing others His love and care.
Perhaps this is a step beyond the known “comfort zone”, but is worth it in three distinct ways: whoever we help is definitely blessed in some way; as we assist a hurting, troubled person, we will experience a feeling of blessing and satisfaction; when we do something for a person to help them in a difficult situation, God is honoured, and nothing is better than honouring God in our words and actions.
