In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. (1 Peter 5:10 NLT)
On Sunday, February 8, 2015, we had the annual Blessing Service at our evening service. This is a time when the leadership and prayer team / altar workers pray over the individual families or single members of the church family. Each year our Lead Pastor has a Scripture verse the Holy Spirit has led him to, and that is what is prayed over all who attend.
During this service there are three teams of eight pray-ers plus one Pastor. The attendees pass through one of the teams, and each set of two people have a specific part of the chosen verse to pray. It is a blessing to all.
This year the particular verse is the one above, from 1 Peter 5:10. When I saw this verse on the screen, with Pastor sharing it before the prayer time, I saw the value of it, and it speaking to me personally. It was broken down into four specific areas for prayer–Thankful For God’s Calling, Restore, Support, Strengthen, and then followed by a Pastor praying for each person to be Placed on a Firm Foundation by the Holy Spirit.
These past three years have been tough personally, health-wise, with an aching body. With all that I was going through, it meant my wife, Barb, ended up, although very willingly, shovelling snow, cutting grass, and other household chores much of the time.
It really was a blessing going through the prayer line and hearing the various prayers, and agreeing with the person praying at each station. At the start of the line, thanks was given to our God for the calling on our lives, and the opportunity to share His eternal glory through Jesus Christ.
The prayer for Restoration of health and strength I continue to hold on to, still waiting for the timing of the Lord to give it, believing He will. Also there was prayer for Restoration of ministry, since I had to step away from the Street Ministry I had started, led, and been involved in for about 12 years, as well as other areas of ministry I no longer had the physical strength or stamina to continue with.
On to the next pair of pray-ers. This was prayer for continuing support from others, family, friends, church family to continue on serving Jesus. This also covered us being a support to others, family and friends to be drawn to Jesus as Saviour, or to be drawn back to Him if any have wandered away.
As we moved along to the next pair of pray-ers, the prayer was for strength to continue on as the Lord leads, serving Him, serving others, growing closer to Jesus, and sharing His Love and Salvation with others.
The closing prayer by a Pastor was for all that we have learned, and each area of our lives that had been prayed for, to be cemented into the Firm Foundation of Jesus Christ. Prayed that our lives were based on Jesus, and that He is our Rock and our Strength.
We are going forward during this year now, looking expectantly for great things to happen, and to see Jesus Christ glorified.
