It is great when we experience the Presence of Jesus during times of corporate worship, or during times when we are alone with Him. But even greater than experiencing the Presence of Jesus is when we have been overcome by Him.
While in the Presence of our Lord Jesus, we worship Him, and we are ministered to as He will open our spirits and minds to hear His voice. During this time, if we open ourselves and are willing, we will be overcome by Jesus for our good and His Glory. Jesus will overcome our fears that we hold onto, or that hold onto us. Jesus will overcome our doubts, if we still have some we are carrying as baggage. Jesus will overcome our pride and cover us with a cloak of humility so we will follow Him by putting others before ourselves and serve many. Jesus will overcome any sin we are holding onto, or has a hold on our mind or body.
Following Jesus, becoming a Christian, and being a disciple of Jesus Christ is more than repeating a brief prayer, raising a hand or walking an aisle to the altar. That is a starting point, but the Holy Spirit will guide each of us to be a living example of Jesus to others.
Once we ask Jesus to forgive us and come into our lives, and are serious, we can’t turn around and return to our previous lifestyle. We are new people in Christ Jesus, and He has plans for us, and His Spirit is within us to strengthen and guide. This does not mean we will never sin again, but it does mean we will turn from sin as a lifestyle. Jesus will overcome our desires for the former sins, and place a desire within us for things of God.
People, if you are not yet, it is time to get serious with God. Playing mind games, and thinking we are fooling anyone needs to stop. Jesus knows our minds, hearts, and spirits. He is calling to each of us. He has more for us. His desire is for us to allow Him to overcome every obstacle that we have in our lives that has kept Him at arms length.
If you are hearing for the first time that Jesus knows you, and loves you, and that you are a sinner, then this day could be the most important day of your life. Because God loves you, loves each of us so much, His Son, Jesus Christ came to earth from Heaven to live among people, to suffer and to willingly give His life as a sacrifice on a cross to pay the penalty for our sin so we can have a relationship with God. Jesus lived a perfect life, without sin, which no one else has ever done, so only He could pay this price for us, for you and me. So right now you can ask Jesus for forgiveness, and to come into your life, and to overcome all the sin and things in your life that are not pleasing to Him. Then ask Jesus to guide you, and surrender yourself to the leading of His Spirit. Speak to another Christian about Bible reading and study. Speak to a church leader about what you have done, or find a church in your area, and allow them to direct you along the path of walking with Jesus.
Do this and you will know joy in your life, and when difficulties come you are not alone, Jesus is with you at all times.
