OUR OWN EMMAUS ROAD EXPERIENCES
In the above noted Scripture, two followers of our Lord Jesus were walkingdown the Emmaus Road immersed in their own thoughts, concerns and conversation. They were deeply concerned about what was going to happen now that Jesus Christ, the One they had looked to as the One Who would redeem Israel, had been crucified. The confusion also arose because some of the ladies, and disciples, checked out the tomb where He had been buried, and said the tomb was empty, and they had been told that Jesus is alive.
Jesus caught up to these two men and chatted with them, but they did not recognize Him. After they spoke all their concerns to Jesus, He shared Scripture with them, about Himself, from the words of Moses and the prophets.
Even after hearing the Word of God, as Jesus shared it, these followers did not have an understanding of what Jesus told them. It was only when they sat down with Jesus, truly paid attention as He took bread, blessed it, and gave it to them, that they realized who He was.
Quite possibly the above scenario has been played out in many of our lives. The Holy Spirit has guided us, and showed us a plan for our life, and we think we see it being fulfilled, but then things happen, and it does not go according to the way we would plan it. Other things happen that we cannot understand, and we attempt to figure everything out humanly. It is during these times of human confusion, when we try to think through everything, and discuss it with others that our mind is so preoccupied that we may not even be listening to the voice of Jesus, through His Spirit, speak to us. Oh, we will hear Him, but we will not really be listening, because we are so busy working things out on our own.
The plan Jesus has for each of us, is unique to each of us. He has created us, has prepared us to fulfill His purpose, to Glorify Him, expand His Kingdom, and be a blessing to others.
Jesus has a plan for each of us. If we do not know His plan yet, we need to seek Him and ask Him, and He will lead each person in the way of His plan for each life.
If we do know the plan Jesus has for us, we need to listen for Him to lead us. When circumstances keep us busy, or confusion comes and doubts set in as to if we are going the right direction, we need to stop, sit with Jesus and listen.
Remember the story, as the disciples were walking and Jesus spoke, their minds were so busy they did not really understand what they were being told. It was when they sat down with Jesus and He took the bread, blessed it and gave it to them that they understood who He was.
We need to take the time with Jesus and sit with Him, and spend time with Him. Jesus is the Bread of Life (John 6:35), and He gives us His Word so we can know Him and feast on Him and His Truths.
Focus on Jesus Christ, and feast on the Bread of Life, and we will know His voice, and know His Truth.
