BEING A LAMP

BEING A LAMP

Matthew 5:14-16

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven.”

In considering this, we can see the many uses the lamp has. The lamp has a flame that gives light for the complete 360 degrees around it, whereas a flashlight would only give light in the direction it is pointed.

Also, as a lamp or candle we can come alongside someone else and ignite them so they will have the “Light” within them as well. One candle or lamp can be used to ignite many others and create an even larger area that is being lit.

The flame from lamps or candles will also give heat. This warmth flowing from us will cause others to have a desire to be drawn to Jesus, Who is the Light within us.

These flames can also be used to cook or bake, and enable us to share the Bread of Life with others.

As we allow the flame to glow brighter within us, we will become more refined and pure, and more people will see the Brightness of Jesus within us and in our actions and be drawn to Him.

Jesus is the Light others will see. Jesus is the Warmth others will benefit from. The Holy Spirit will use the Flame in each of us to draw others, and then to ignite them and the Fire will spread.

It begins with each of us having the Flame illuminate the area we are in each day.
